LINC 2013

MITx and LINC 2013, June 16-19 at MIT

Exciting news: MIT’s highly publicized new educational initiative is MITx, an innovative program offering Massive Online Open Courses (MOOC’s). We are pleased to announce:

MITx is co-sponsoring LINC 2013!

Led by MIT Professors Sanjay Sarma and Isaac Chuang, MITx is now developing on-line open courses anyone in the World can take for free on the edX platform. Courses offered in this format have had over 100,000 registered students worldwide. That’s ten times the total number of students on the MIT campus!

Over a decade ago, MIT catapulted the Open Educational Resources (OER) movement forward with MIT OpenCourseWare (OCW). MITx is the next great transformation for the OER movement. Professor Sarma is now Director of a multi-pronged MIT Office of Digital Learning, which includes MITx, OCW and all on-campus initiatives in creative use of educational technologies. Together with OCW and the worldwide OER movement, MITx and its counterparts in other universities have truly opened the door to quality education for the World. This matches perfectly the theme of LINC 2013:

Realizing the Dream: Education Becoming Available to All. Will the World Take Advantage?

The LINC 2013 program will leverage this theme by including as invited plenary speakers:

  • MIT Professor Sanjay Sarma, Director of MIT Office of Digital Learning;
  • MIT Professor Anant Agarwal, President of edX (a consortium of universities offering MOOCs, including MIT, Harvard, U.C. Berkeley, University of Texas and Wellesley College); and
  • Sir John Daniel who is writing scholarly treatises on MOOC’s.

An impressive cadre of other invited plenary speakers, representing e-learning best practices from Latin America, Asia and Africa, will join these speakers. Plus there will be other invited speakers addressing a range of important related topics, and many excellent contributed papers.

It should all to be very exciting! LINC 2013 promises to be the best yet.
